A garden should not just be a beautiful space, it has to be a place you use. What have you been doing outside in the garden in the sunny weather? Has something stopped you from using it the way you would have liked to? Maybe it is time for a little rethink in that case. Here at frock n wellies HQ we have been getting wet and muddy pretty much every day.
When considering sustainability of a garden, I personally find it important the the garden can withstand its users. I am not precious about my flowerborders. In fact, any snipping off of flowers will just encourage more flowers to come with most of my plants. And the odd ball landing in my crocosmia does not do a lot of harm. Making sure I am realistic as to what goes on outside and selecting plants that can tolerate the, in my case, chaos , means happier play-time.
Evidence is accumulating about the importance of being outside for our mental health, as well as our immune system. This is one of the topics I want to write more about soon, but this weather has just kept me away from my desk... So you will all just have to wait until the sun gives way to more cloudy days I'm afraid. In the meantime, all I can say is: happy gardening!
